The coaxial cable from Telenet arrives in the basement. Therefore the Wi-Fi in the home is very good in the basement but less quality in the home.
Since we do not really need Wi-Fi in the basement I would like to move NIU-65/88-GA-01A-BE05. I would like to get the coaxial cable to go up along the stairs up one floor.
Therefore I would like to dis-connect Telenet coaxial cable from the NIU-65/88-GA-01A-BE05 move NIU-65/88-GA-01A-BE05 and the Modem CH7465LG0TN.
Can I disconnected the Telenel coaxial cable from the NIU-65/88-GA-01A-BE05, re-route the Telenet coaxial, move the model to new location?
Is there any precaution needed?
Thank you.
This is not a direct answer to your question, but something to consider. Why not connect a UTP cable to your modem and route that to another location on another device?
If you have a CV8560E or F@ST3896LG-TN modem (you can get these at a Telenet shop) then you use set it up in bridge mode and use your own router (which has several advantages).
Or you can connect the UTP cable to an access point, switch, mesh system, ... Or you can use your own modem.
There are other options as well, but KISS and use a UTP cable. I think cat6e (at least) is advised to be future proof.
Laat de NIU staan, maar verplaats enkel de modem.
Thank you for your time in responding to my q.
What you suggest is the present configuration.
Now that I have solved other issue I am attempting to improve the installation.
No need to have a wi-fi under utilized in the basement.
The RF cable from Telenet is long enough. From moving horizontally for approx two meter I get the same cable to move it vertically.
Any experience any though?
Thanks.
Thanks for your replay. Very much appreciated.
Do you know where I can purchase a longer cable so I can move modem only?
What are the specifications?
Thanks,
If you are already using your own router, then you're behind a double NAT which isn't the best situation. You can avoid this with a modem that can be set up in bridge mode with your own router. CV8560E doesn't have WiFi and you can turn WiFi off on any the other modems.
My own set up:
NIU and CV8560E modem are in the garage. The modem is connected (and set up in bridge mode) with a TP Link AX3000 router. I need the it for outdoor WiFi (camera), so I left it there and connected it to 4 port D-Link switch and a TP Link AX1800 access point in the living room using this cable
(through the attic, under the doors, no drilling)
Double NAT was messing with my Pi-Hole & Unbound and bridge mode solved this problem.

You need a PE6 cable (up tot 30 meters). In some DIY shops you will find a coax cable with the inscription "TELENET - INTERKABEL"
Alternatively, you might en able tot re-use a coax going to one of the TV outlets in the living area, if any ..
